10 Outdoor Spring Cleaning Projects

outdoor spring cleaning

Spring cleaning isn’t fun for most of us. But it needs to be done. As the holidays and winter near an end and we begin looking forward to spring, something within us encourages us to get our homes in order by cleaning, organizing and getting rid of things we’ve hoarded throughout the winter months.

But who says spring cleaning is limited to the interior of a house?
The outside of your home could probably use some tidying up after a cold, dreary winter, too!

It’s Time For Home Exterior Cleaning

Here are home exterior cleaning projects that will drastically improve the appearance of your home in Cleveland, and, more importantly, will provide much-needed maintenance and upkeep that will save money in years to come.

1. Gutter Cleaning

Spring is the optimal time of year to clean your gutters, because a lot of leaves and debris accumulate in the fall and winter months. Pollen is at its highest in spring, making a huge mess in your gutters and downspouts if they aren’t cleaned.

Plus, bugs and animals are looking for places to build their homes in spring, so having your gutters cleaned will help to prevent an infestation in your home.

Gutter cleaning will consist of cleaning the inside of your gutters, removing mold, mildew, stains and restoring them to a nice appearance.

2. Window Cleaning

Exterior window cleaning is necessary for spring cleaning. Ground floor windows won’t cause you too much of an issue, but second and third floor windows can be a bit trickier to reach.

Cleaning windows by hand is a tough job, and it will need a lot of supplies, not to mention climbing up and down a ladder! A soft wash or professional cleaning of your exterior windows is the perfect solution to get the panes and the outer frame clean.

3. Pressure Washing

You aren’t going to want clean gutters and clean windows on a dirty house. Which means you will want to pressure wash your home too!

Pressure washing is fast, effective and affordable. You can pressure clean your house, patio furniture, patios, wood and stone porches and walkways with not too much effort. It will remove dirt and mud so they will not permanently stain your home, and you can also prevent the spread of mold, mildew and allergens.

4. Driveway Cleaning

Clearing off your driveway and giving it a good cleaning might seem silly because you will still be driving on it, but actually, a clean, well-cared for driveway can increase the curb appeal of your home.

A professional pressure washing company will do wonders for driveway cleaning, whether it is pavement, asphalt, brick or another material. Also consider adding a gravel border to your driveway to really help it stand out!

5. Patio Cleaning

Your patio probably gets the most use in the summer months, so it is easy to forget about it in the winter when you aren’t doing as much outdoor entertaining, relaxing or grilling. Your patio can be in pretty rough condition the first time you go onto it in spring.

Soap and water – and a little elbow grease – are sometimes be enough for patio cleaning, but if you notice signs of mold or mildew, you need to consider a more serious option, like power washing, to ensure that friends and family can enjoy your patio all summer long.

6. Roof Cleaning

Mold and moss are common home roof issues in Cleveland. While you are cleaning the outside of your home, it is a great time to pressure clean your roof too, but you will have to use a different process than the one you use for the rest of your home’s exterior cleaning.

If you start to notice streaks on your roof, algae is probably the reason. Moss is fairly obvious, too. These particles cannot be scrubbed off shingles, nor can you power wash the roof. Both of these methods will damage the shingles on your roof.

The best course of action for roof cleaning is to spray the shingles with a half-water, half-bleach solution and let it sit. This will eliminate all organic organisms on your roof without reducing its lifespan.

7. Spruce up the Front

The front of your home is going to be what most people see, so make the best impression you can for visitors and for yourself! Coming home to a clean exterior will instantly improve your day, and it will encourage you to spend more time outside.

You can clean your porch with detergent and water or a good power wash. Clean cobwebs and dirt off of the front porch, and consider painting it for a really fresh look! Clean forgotten areas including the porch ceiling, light fixtures and ceiling fans, too.

8. Organize Outdoor Tools

You will probably be spending more time outdoors, so spring is a wonderful time to organize whatever you will need for outdoor chores.

Gardening tools and pool care equipment must all have an assigned area outside your home – somewhere that it is safe from weather and out of sight so it isn’t a constant eyesore. Taking the time to organize in the spring allows you to enjoy the outside of your home much more during the time of year when you spend the most time outside.

9. Lawn Care & Landscaping

Your yard, trees and garden bushes can make a major impact on the look of your home.

Kill weeds around the exterior of your flower beds and walkways and driveway, till up areas where you might be planting later on and brush off walkways. You can also spray pre-emergent weed poison to make lawn care easier on yourself throughout the next few months. Trim all bushes too.

10. Clean the Grill

After being unused for months, your gas or charcoal grill could need a good cleaning, too. Leftover grease and food particles from your grill are unappetizing, but they can also make you and your family ill.

Wipe it down to remove ash, then scrub the grates with a scrubber (so you don’t leave behind particles that can sometimes get into food) and a dish soap or degreaser.

You could probably complete all of these projects after a few weekends but it will be a lot of tough work. Instead, give us a call! Cleveland Pressure Washing provides professional home exterior cleaning services for driveway cleaning, patio cleaning, pressure washing, roof cleaning and more!
